PROPOLIS AS A FOODINGREDIENT

Viewed : 1638 - Downloaded : 923 Propolis is a resinious material using for covering hive holes via collecting from plant secretions and transforming by bees. Use of bee products for the purpose of treatment is called apitherapy. Propolis has a wide usage in apitherapy. Antioxidant, antimicrobial, antiviral, antiinflamatory, antiseptic, antitumor, antiulcer effects of propolis is known.

Functional foods have positive contributions to human health besides nutritional contributions. Propolis is considering for adding functional properties to foods and different studies are performing in recent years. Researches about propolis addition to different foods like Ras cheese and fresh sausage of Egypt, Italian type salami, some fruit juices and yoghurt are discussed in this paper.
